Colintraive & Glendaruel Get a Development Trust!

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

ColGlen took a great step forward the other day when the Development Trust which has so long been in process has now been formed. The trust, which will be looking at sustainable business enterprises, will no doubt be viewing tourism and our visitors as potential markets.

If you have an idea for the trust you can suggest it here.

Glendaruel Hotel Hits the Headlines

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

It should be put straight here: the Glendaruel Hotel is under new ownership. In fact, Paul Smythe the proprietor, has made a statement on his website, here.

Unfortunately, this story won’t only affect what is effectively one of only three or four employers in the Glen, but the entire community of 160 people. We would urge visitors to ignore the stories, as they are about events which are nearly a year out of date. The hotel’s new management takes part in local events, sponsors the local shinty side and is an essential component of a great local community.

Love it. Visit Glendaruel.

Calmac’s Plans for Colintraive Harbour

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

The Colintraive and Glendaruel Community Council received notification of a Harbour Empowerment Order. The details are at the Community Council Site.

This development would mean that Calmac would accrue wide-ranging powers over a large part of Colintraive harbour. Comments from the floor at the Community Council meeting were very concerned about what this meant both for local boating traffic and holiday-makers putting in to use the Hotel facilities. The council resolved to investigate the matter and formulate a response in quick order as the timescales are very tight.

More can be found in the Ediburgh Gazette, here.

If you would like to contribute, you can comment on the ColGlen site.

Peoples’ Millions: Glendaruel WON!

Saturday, November 18th, 2006
The children of Glendaruel & Colintraive will get a playpark. Congratulations to the committee, what a superb effort! Convened in the Glendaruel Hotel to watch the announcement, the celebrations echoed all around the Glen at a little past 6 in the evening.
As for VG.com, we received a lot of feedback from contacts all over the UK and abroad from people who called in. Thanks especially to Katie in Holland, Bruce in Australia and Sarah in the US who all check in regularly on the site and made the effort to vote for the Glendaruel playpark.
